Monthly Mentor

Stacy Fuller(February)
I am the Director of Education at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, Texas. In this role, I work with a talented team of fifteen museum educators to ensure the development, execution, and evaluation of the Amon Carter’s mission-focused educational programs and resources for various audiences. With experience as a museum registrar, in curatorial work, and designing professional development programs for educators, I have a passionate love for works of art and also accessibility—making sure that visitors of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities are able to enter, access, and engage with museum collections.

“ART with a PURPOSE”…Thank You!

It has been my honor and privilege to be your Monthly Mentor and begin 2010 with my “ART with a PURPOSE” thoughts!  I hope I have inspired you to springboard off of some of these ideas and teach your students how they can change the world through their art.  I hope you have enjoyed the thoughts of your colleagues and I look forward to seeing you all at the NAEA convention and continuing our discussions!  You all inspire me to be a better person and a better art educator daily!    Thank You!

Thank you so much to Linda Scott for this wonderful opportunity!

Stay in touch…please visit my e-portfolio, e-mail me or visit me at school anytime!  My door is always open, I know that when we work together the ultimate winners are our students, the REASON we should all get up every day with a smile on our faces and teach ART with a PURPOSE!

Be Blessed and TGIT!

Debi,
Your "Art With a Purpose" theme has clearly benefitted so many others and has also inspired YOUR students with a solid reason to MAKE art!! Isn't MOTIVATION something we often struggle with (either ourselves or our students)? Who isn't motivated by the notion of helping others? Hopefully, we all are motivated by the thought that we can help others AND make a difference in the world. Thank you, Debi, for your work in the world of art education and for your heartfelt blogs!

Debi,
Thanks for sharing you thoughts, commitments and passion this month as the mentor! It is always important to ask the "why" and "for what purpose" in everything we do. It is that questioning and purpose that we must have our students (and ourselves) bring to the creative process. Having a classroom of highly diverse students, where their experiences and backgrounds are what they can draw from. We make our art rooms a safe place to explore and communicate those differences and similarities that bind us together as a "people". Thank you for your energy and willingness to open yourself to us through your blogs!

I am not a teacher.. but Debi you have always been my inspiration as a creative, passionate person, a true friend, a devoted mom and good wife. You let Croy reach for sky by living in the surf and exploring the world with his own compass and you nourish Carson to grow into this very smart, fun young woman, like you were..., Showing direct testament to the mentor you are to me, is my continuing education in art history and travels through Italy to see the most incredible pieces and actually appreciate them. ..Thanks for your energy, your devotion to art, your devotion to humankind, THEY ARE CONTAGIOUS but especially your walks with me through museums ( priceless) you are a blessing in my life, and in the families of everyone who meets you. You put the ART in our HeARTs Love Dee

Debi, I have loved following your posts here during the month. You continue to amaze me with your enthusiasm, energy and passion. How timely this is. In the wake of the devastation in Haiti, my students have embraced the idea of "Art with a Purpose". While we have done auctions and fundraisers before, this time it is different. Continued thanks for your never-ending insights and inspiration.
creatively, Linda
